StuCo Privacy Policy
Last updated / Effective date: 2026-07-06
StuCo is operated by STUCO LLP ("StuCo", "we", "us", "our"). This policy explains what information StuCo collects, why, and what choices you have. We've tried to keep it short and clear.
The short version
- We only collect the information the app needs to work.
- No ads. No tracking. No analytics or advertising companies. We never sell or share your data for marketing.
- You can delete your account — and everything in it — from inside the app, anytime.
- You must be at least 13 to use StuCo.
- If you're in the EU and under your country's "digital consent age," a parent or guardian needs to say yes first.
The rest of this policy explains the details.
Who can use StuCo (and a note for younger users)
You must be at least 13 years old to use StuCo.
- Under 13: You can't use StuCo. If we learn that someone under 13 has created an account, we'll delete it. (This follows the U.S. children's privacy law, COPPA.)
- In the EU/EEA: Some countries require you to be older before you can agree to data processing on your own — the "digital consent age" ranges from 13 to 16 depending on the country (for example, 16 in Germany and 15 in France). If you're under that age in your country, a parent or guardian must give permission for you to use StuCo, and by using it you confirm they have.
Parents or guardians: if your child uses StuCo and you'd like to review their information or have their account deleted, contact us at support@stu-co.net.
What we collect
Everything below is collected only to run the app:
Account information
- Email address
- Name
- Date of birth (to check your age)
- Password (we never store your actual password — only a securely "hashed" version, which can't be reversed)
Profile and academic information
- School or university, major, GPA, test scores, activities, awards, certificates, and essays
- Country and hometown
- Profile photo
Things you post (user-generated content)
- Posts, comments, chat messages, community posts, and images you upload
Basic identifiers and records
- An internal user ID we use to recognize your account
- A record that you accepted our Terms (which version, and when)
What we do not collect
- Your precise location
- Your contacts
- Health or financial information
- Advertising identifiers
How we use your information
We use your information only to provide and protect StuCo:
- To create your account and sign you in
- To show your profile and content to the people you connect with
- To deliver your messages and community posts in real time
- To keep the app safe — for example, checking content against our rules, and handling reports and blocks
- To respond when you contact support
- To meet legal obligations and enforce our Terms
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles about you.
What we never do
- We don't show you ads.
- We don't track you across other apps or websites.
- We don't use analytics or advertising SDKs (the little tracking tools many apps embed).
- We don't sell, rent, or share your personal information for anyone else's marketing.
Who we share information with
We don't sell your data. We share it only with companies that help us run the app ("service providers" or "processors" — they handle data on our behalf and only for us):
- Supabase — database, sign-in, and file storage
- Pusher — delivering your chat and real-time messages
- Railway — hosting our backend servers
- Apple and Google — distributing the app through their app stores
We may also share information if the law requires it, or if we believe in good faith it's necessary to protect someone's safety — for example, responding to a credible threat, or reporting child sexual abuse material to the appropriate authorities, which we are legally required to do.
Where your data is stored
Your information is stored and processed by our service providers, which may be located in Northeast Asia (Asia-Pacific). If you're in the EU/EEA and your data is transferred outside it, we rely on appropriate legal safeguards for that transfer.
How long we keep your information
- We keep your information for as long as your account is active.
- When you delete your account, we erase your account, your content, and your uploaded files. (See "Your rights" below.)
- We may keep a small amount of information for a limited time if we're legally required to, or to handle a safety issue — for example, a record of a serious violation.
Your rights and choices
- See and correct your information: You can view and edit most of your profile inside the app.
- Delete everything: You can permanently delete your account — including your content and uploaded files — from inside the app. This can't be undone.
- Contact us: Email support@stu-co.net with any privacy request.
If you're in the EU/EEA (or somewhere with similar laws), you also have the right to access your data, correct it, delete it, get a copy to take elsewhere ("portability"), object to certain uses, and complain to your local data protection authority. Tell us and we'll help.
How we protect your information
We take reasonable steps to keep your information safe, including storing passwords only in hashed form, protecting data in transit with encryption (HTTPS), and limiting who can access it. No system is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data and to fix problems quickly.
Changes to this policy
If we make important changes, we'll update this page and change the "Effective date" at the top. If the changes are significant, we'll do our best to let you know in the app.
